Sophomore Kara Nay (Montclair, Va./Forest Park) put the Highlanders (2-2) ahead for good, connecting on a header in the 65th minute and junior Rachel Conway (Kitchener, Ontario, Canada/Forest Heights Collegiate) iced the contest with her second penalty kick goal of the evening with just over five minutes to play.
Radford outshot the Monarchs (1-3), 23-6, and held a decisive, 11-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Trailing 1-0 after a long service by ODU's Nikki Clarke found it's way in to the back of the net in the 34th minute, the Highlanders came out determined not to let another strong performance go to waste and it was evident as soon as the second-half whistle blew.
Their aggressive play resulted in a penalty kick opportunity in the 59th minute, when junior Julie Ruh'e (Monrovia, Md./Urbana) was taken down in the box during a long throw. Conway snuck her shot just inside the post and off ODU keeper Brianna Alvarado's outstretched hands to even the match a 1-1.
After earning one of five second-half penalty kicks, junior Sydney Golden (Lexington, Ky./Paul L. Dunbar)'s service to the far post was headed back across the six-yard box by classmate Tyler Drake (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County) and found Nay, who buried it in the back of the net for the game winner.
Conway iced it late after senior Megan Rhodes (Blacksburg, Va./Blacksburg) was taken down by Alvarado in the box. It was her team-leading third goal of the season.
Junior Che' Brown (Manassas Park, Va./Manassas Park) made three stops on the evening, while Alvarado made a match-high nine saves. Nay charted a match-best four shots, while five other Highlanders attempted three. Six different players recorded a shot for the Monarchs.
Radford turns around and heads to Dover, Del. to take on Delaware State and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
