Katelyn Meeks (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. It is the fourth career honor for the defensive specialist after picking up the same accolade in her freshman and junior campaigns, in addition to last month's selection.
The Richmond, Va. native anchored the Highlanders' backline charting a match-high 25 digs in the outing with High Point, before tallying a match-high 15 digs against Campbell. For the week, Meeks averaged an impressive 5.71 digs per set to garner her second Defensive Player of the Week nod of the season.
As for her ascent to the top of the career digs chart, Meeks is now only 32 shy of first place with 1,346 digs – Lauren Clary currently owns the top spot with 1,378 digs.
Meeks and the rest of the Highlanders are on the road for the next three matches, beginning with a 6:00 p.m. contest at North Carolina A&T, Tuesday.
