Lynchburg - The Roanoke Men's soccer team defeated Greensboro 1-0 in the Maroons' opening contest of the Shellenberger Classic on Saturday. The Maroons advance to 2-1, while The Pride fall to 1-2 on the season.
A.J. Tierce scored the game winning goal for Roanoke, after receiving a pass from Brian White at the 25:49 mark. Tonight's goal is Tierce's second of the season, while White picks up his second assist in the 2012 campaign.
Roanoke outshot Greensboro 11-7 and also held the advantage in corner kicks (6-1). Will Dooley played all 90 minutes in net, facing seven shots and only having to make one save.
The Maroons will play against Franklin & Marshall in their final game of the Shellenberger Classic today. That contest is scheduled for a 4:00 PM start.
