Conover Hat Trick Leads Maroons To 3-0 Victor

Roanoke-Maroons-LogoSenior defender, Chris Conover netted a hat trick in Roanoke College men's soccer's 3-0 victory over Washington and Lee on Saturday.  The Maroons now move into first place in the ODAC with a record of 9-4-1, 7-2-1 ODAC, while the Generals are 9-4-2, 6-2-2 in ODAC play.

Roanoke has a 39-31-5 all-time record against Washington and Lee, with the Maroons winning the last six games in the series.  Conover's hat trick is the first one for the Maroons since September 18, 2009 when Kayvon scored three in Roanoke's 9-1 victory over Bridgewater College.

The #1 and #2 ranked teams in the ODAC played a fairly aggressive first half, with neither team finding the back of the net early.  It wasn't until 25:26 as Garrett Eldridge crossed a ball to the front of the goal, where Chris Conover headed it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.  Just four minutes later, Conover struck again as he took a shot from the right side of the goal that passed between the keeper and the post for a 2-0 lead, which held as the score until halftime.

At 71:34, Conover was granted a penalty kick to capture his hat trick, placing the ball in the upper right hand corner of the goal, putting the Maroons up 3-0.

The Maroons led the Generals in shots 8-4 and corner kicks 5-2.  Conover and Mark Strelow led the team in shots with three each, followed by Dionys Beck and Spencer Martin with one each.  Cole Sinclair played all 90 minutes in goal and tallied one save.

The Maroons return to action on Tuesday, October 23rd as they host Emory & Henry in Roanoke's final regular season contest at Kerr Stadium.  That contest is scheduled for a 7:00 PM start.
