In the anticipation of the severe weather that has threatened the majority of the east coast, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) has elected to alter its postseason schedule for all outdoor tournaments over the next week.
The ODAC Men's Soccer Semifinal contest between Roanoke College and Randolph College will be postponed until Thursday, November 1. The ODAC Men's Soccer Championship match will be moved to 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4. With a win on Thursday, the Maroons (#1 overall seed) would be the host of the conference championship.
You are probably already aware of Hurricane Sandy and the impact the storm is having in the mid-Atlantic States. The Roanoke Valley is not directly in the storm's path, however the Roanoke Valley will experience gusty winds and rain over the next 24 hours. Sustained winds around 30 mph with gust that may reach 60 mph are predicted between midnight tonight and 7:00 am tomorrow morning, and then again between 2 :00 pm - 5:00 pm Tuesday afternoon.
The men's soccer team is riding a three-game win-streak heading into the ODAC Semifinals. The Maroons have won at least 10 matches a season for the sixth-straight year, a program-best. Scott Allison, entering his final post-season run, is both the program and ODAC career wins leader and is the 22nd among active coaches in career victories. A win against the WildCats will earn the programs' fourth conference championship appearance in the past six years.
In the ODAC Tournament, the Maroons are 32-14-3. They have claimed the regular season title 13 times (1985, 1988, 1993, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2011, 2012) and advanced to the ODAC Championship game 10 times (1990, 1991, 1993, 1994, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009). Roanoke College has won eight ODAC Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament on five occasions (1993, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2007).
The ODAC Volleyball Quarterfinal match between Roanoke College and Washington and Lee University will maintain the previously established schedule, barring anything unforeseen at this time. That contest will be played on Wednesday, October 31 at 7 p.m. at the Warner Center, with the semifinals and championship on Saturday, November 3 at the highest seed remaining after Wednesday's ODAC quarterfinal match-ups. Randolph-Macon, the conference's #1 overall seed, has the home-court advantage.
The Roanoke College Volleyball team is 16-14 heading into post-season play. They have already doubled the entire 2011 season win total. The Maroons earned program-win #500 this fall vs. Ferrum College on Oct. 5 during the Maroon Classic.
In the ODAC Tournament, the Maroons have finished as runner-up in 1995, 1999, 2001 and 2009. The last ODAC Quarterfinal victory came against vs. Washington and Lee came in the ODAC Quarterfinals in 2009, where the Maroons snapped the Generals' string of 54 conference wins and eight-straight ODAC Tournament Championships. It was arguably the biggest upset in the history of the ODAC Volleyball Tournament.
