Virginia Tech men’s basketball player Robert Brown underwent successful surgery this morning to repair a fracture to the fifth metatarsal of the left foot, suffered last week in workouts.

“I am disappointed for Robert,” head coach James Johnson said. “This is obviously a setback to him. He had a great spring and has been working very hard this summer, but he has time to recover. We look forward to a full and speedy recovery from him. He will be a part of everything we do this summer, he just will not be active in any workouts.”

Brown, a sophomore from Clermont, Fla., had surgery at Lewis Gale Hospital at Montgomery this morning, performed by Virginia Tech team orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Marc Siegel. Brown will not be able to actively participate in summer workouts, but is not expected to miss any time during the upcoming season.

Brown played in all 33 games for the Hokies in his freshman season, starting four games and averaging 22.3 minutes per game. He averaged 6.8 points, 1.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds per game in the 2011-12 season.
