Pulaski County West Runs Past Radford

Pulaski County West scored early and often in running away with a 12-5 victory over Radford in the opening game of the Dixie Minors Baseball Tournament Saturday afternoon in Blacksburg.

Pulaski County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI walk by James Jackson and an RBI single by Wesley Riddle. Radford struck in its half of the inning when Justin Marshall smacked a home run over the fence in left center to make it 3-1. Jon Woods followed with a single and Ben Cox walked. However, the next two batters struck out to end the inning.

Pulaski would take a 4-1 lead in the top of the second on an RBI single by Logan Burchett.

Pulaski would break loose for seven runs in the top of the fourth. An RBI double by Moose Bowden, a two-run triple by Bubba Clark, an RBI Sacrifice fly by Punky Foster and RBI fielder’s choice by Bowden help give Pulaski West an 11-1 advantage. A single by Woods and an RBI single by Nathan Wesley cut the Radford deficit to eight, 11-3.

Pulaski added a run in the top of the fifth to make it 12-3. Radford answered in the bottom of the inning. Back-to back one-out singles by Eli Monday and Marshall put runners on second and first. Woods then smacked a two-run single to score Monday and Marshall. Woods was thrown out at second when he tried to stretch the single into a double to make the second out. The inning ended on a strike out, as Pulaski County led 12-5, which proved to be the final score.

Wesley Riddle, Logan Burchett and Bubba Clark led Pulaski County West with two hits apiece.

Jon Woods led Radford with three hits and Justin Marshall added two hits, including a solo home run.
