In the first game of day 3 of the Dixie Youth District 3 Tournament on Monday, Pulaski West beat Pulaski East 2-1 in a pitcher's duel. Both teams displayed great defense as they battled one another to the very end.
Bubba Clark led the game off for Pulaski West with a single and moved to 2B on a passed ball. After two strike outs, Alex Parmalee and Marty Martin would both draw walks to load the bases. However, an out ended the Pulaski West threat.
In the bottom of the 1st, Pulaski East's John Seagle led off with a single, which would be their only hit of the game. He moved to 2B on a wild pitch, and after a strike out, Cooper Dunnigan reached on an error and moved around the bases on a throwing error. Seagle would score as a result of the throwing error to put Pulaski East on top 1-0.
For the next three innings, base runners were hard to come by. In the top of the 2nd, Wesley Riddle reached on an error, stole second base and ended up on third after two fielder's choice outs. However, he was stranded as Pulaski West did not score.
For the bottom half of the next three innings, Punky Foster was practically perfect for Pulaski West. Facing 9 batters, he struck out 4 and was 3 up and 3 down for three straight innings (bottom of 2nd, 3rd, and 4th).
Logan Burchett would single for the East in the 3rd, but was stranded. Pulaski East went 3 up and 3 down in the top of the 4th.
In the top of the 5th, Pulaski East's Wesley Riddle was hit by a pitch, and then Moose Bowden walked, putting runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. After two quick outs, Logan Burchett reached on an error, scoring Riddle, who had moved around the bases on two passed balls.
In the bottom of the 5th, Foster started to tire a bit. After striking out the first batter, he waked two, got a second batter to strike out, then walked a third to load the bases. However, he worked out of the jam by striking out the next batter to end the inning.
After 5 complete innings, the score was tied 1-1.
In the top of 6th, Alex Parmalee led off with a single, advanced to second on a passed ball, and stole 3B. Pulaski East would get two outs, one a hit back to the pitcher, and then a strike out. However, after walking two batters, the bases were loaded. All three were stranded as the next Pulaski West batter hit a ball back to the pitcher for the force out at home.
In the bottom of the 6th, Pulaski West made a pitching change too Bubba Clark, who pitched well. He forced two ground balls, but errors allowed the runners to reach base. After a throwing error by Pulaski East, John Seagle would score the winning run, allowing Pulaski East to prevail. Seagle scored both of Pulaski East's runs.
