It was an exciting and wild night at the 2010 Dixie Ponytails (11-12) All-Star District Tournament held at Motor Mile Park hosted by Montgomery County Parks & Recreation Friday night. Four all-star teams from Radford, Montgomery County, Eastern Motgomery County and Botetourt County laid it all on the line for a trip to the state tournament.
Game #1 Eastern Montgomery County 14, Radford City 9
Game number 1 featured Eastern Montgomery against Radford City in a slugfest. East Mont would take the early lead as Mikayla Phoenix would come around to score off a Hailey Ferguson single to make it 1-0 East Mont after one inning.
In the top of the second, Marissa Rubas would come around to score to make it 2-0. The bottom of the second would see Radford strike. Hailey O'Brien would lead off with a solo in the park home run to trim the deficit to 2-1. It wouldn't stop there as 3 more Radfrod runs would score highlighted by an RBI single by Mallory Wood.
In the 3rd, East Mont would again score a Mikayla Phonix run as this time it was Tayler Lewis knocking her in to trim the score to 4-3. Radford would answer with another four-spot with the help of a Hailey O'Brien double to increase their lead to 8-3.
Things got wild in the top of the fourth as Scarlett Sisson, Skyar Shaver, Rubas, Abby Linkous, Phoenix and Ferguson would all come around to score to shake thing up and give East Mont a suprising 9-8 lead. Radford answered in the bottom of the fourth when Mallory Wood would come around to score to tie the game at 9 heading into the fifth.
East Mont would get a single by Sisson, a triple by Alyssa Sampsom and another triple by Phoenix to jump to a 13-9 lead. After holding Radford scoreless Feguson would come around to score in the top of the sixth to provide the final scoring in a 14-9 win.
Eastern Montgomery advances to meet the winner of the Botetourt-Montgomey County.
Game #2 Mongomery County 3, Botetourt County 1
After the first games' fireworks, Botetourt and Montogmery put on a pitching and defensive showcase.
Angel Meredith of Botetourt County would take the mound and keep Montgomery scoreless after the first. Paige Saville would answer in her half of the first shuting down Botetourt County.
Montgomery was able to push across Rachel Smoot in the second thanks to her double and and RBI single from Olivia Boyd.
It would stay 1-0 until the fifth thanks to excellent pitching from Botetourt pitchers Meredith and Brianna McPhail.
In the fifth Haley Sale would double followed by a double by Smoot and another RBI single from Boyd to extend the Montgomery County lead to 3-0. In the bottom of the fifth Miranda Stapleton would come around to score for Botetourt but that was all Botetourt would get this night.
Paige Saville went the distance for Montgomery County pitching all six innings and only giving up one run while sticking out 12 and only giving up 3 hits. Your final was 3-1, Montgomery County.
Come out and check out all the action tonight, as Radford faces Botetourt in an elimination game at 6:00PM and Montgomery County faces Eastern Montgomery County at 8:00PM to see who stays undefeated.
