In a slugfest that saw both teams combine for 25 hits and 37 runs, Botetourt outlasted Giles, 19-18, to win the District 3 championship of the Dixie Belles All-Stars Softball Tournament Sunday afternoon at Veterans Field in Roanoke.
Botetourt will advance to the state tournament in two weeks, representing District 3.
Botetourt jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the opening inning.
Giles would use singles by Abby Stafford and MaKayla Ratcliffe, along with six walks and an error to take a 5-1 lead in the top of the second. In the bottom of the inning, Botetourt used singles by Grace Boosdwine, Chelsea Shaff, Alyssa Anthony and Kaitlyn Booth, along with a double by Morgan Whitt to score four runs and tie the game at 5-5.
Back-to-back doubles by Tiffany Perdue and Jennifer Bradley allowed Giles to score five runs in the top of the third inning and take a 10-5 advantage. In the bottom of the inning, Botetourt would score nine times to regain the lead, 14-10. Hits by Boosdwine, Shaff, Taylor Powers, Elaina Prillman and Brittany Tyler highlighted the Botetourt outburst.
In the top of the fourth, Giles would score three times behind a double of the bat of Ratcliffe to cut its deficit to 14-13. In the bottom of the inning Botetourt, behind hits from Shaff, Powers, Whitt and Kaitlyn Booth, would strike for three more runs, as they increased there advantage to 17-13.
In the top of the sixth, Giles would score a run to pull to within three, 17-14. In the bottom of the sixth, Botetourt scored twice to pull back out to a 19-14 advantage.
In the top of the seventh, Giles rallied for four runs to pull to within one, 19-18. With two outs and bases loaded, the Giles batter would go down swinging, as Botetourt held on for the exciting 19-18, victory.
MaKayla Ratcliffe had three of Giles' eight hits, while Tiffany Perdue added two hits.
Botetourt, which pounded out 17 hits, was led by Chelsea Shaff with four and Alyssa Anthony with three hits.
In Saturday's action, Giles would score nine runs in the sixth inning to down Blacksburg, 18-4. The big blows were a home run by Tiffany Perdue and doubles by Abi Stafford, Noell Neice and Marina Dowdy.
Also on Saturday, Botetourt scored 12 runs in the third inning to claim a 26-2 win over Blacksburg. The game was called after fifth inning due to the slaughter rule.
In Friday night's game, Botetourt came away with an 11-4 win over Giles.
Blacksburg won the Sportsmanship Trophy.
