Christiansburg pounded previously unbeaten Botetourt National 13-1 and Blacksburg rallied to eliminate Botetourt American, 8-7, in Dixie Angels All-Stars Softball Tournament action Tuesday night at Veterans Field in Radford.
Christiansburg, Blacksburg and Botetourt Nationals all remain with just one loss. In a drawing after the game, Christiansburg received a bye into the 8:30 p.m championship game tonight, while Botetourt Nationals will play Blacksburg at 6 p.m. to see who will advance to the title game.
Christiansburg 13, Botetourt Nationals 1
Christiansburg scored early and often, as they handed Botetourt Nationals its first loss of the tournament by a 13-1 margin. The game was called after four innings due to the slaughter rule.
Christiansburg would jump out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. A single by Jesse Burleson, along with walks to Madelyn Campbell, Haley Moore, Sarah St. Jean, Alyssa Dickerson, Sydney Jackson and Hannah Moore, along with Emily Handy being hit by a pitch contributed to the outburst.
Christiansburg would tack on another run in the top of the third to make it 6-0 on three-straight singles by Haley Moore, St.Jean and Emily Hoover.
Christiansburg would put this one out of reach in the top of the fourth. Walks to Handy, Kelsey Hall, Campbell, a fielder's choice by Haley Moore, a fielder's choice by St. Jean, a fielder's choice by Hoover, a single by Dickerson, a walk by Jackson and a fielder's choice by Hannah Moore allowed Christiansburg to cross the plate seven times and take a 13-0 lead.
Botetourt Nationals would avoid the shutout, as they scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, when Alexis Borovich led off with a double, followed by error and a single by Brittany Crawford.
Blacksburg 8, Botetourt American 7
Chelsea Bourne hit a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth inning, that scored a pair of runs to give Blacksburg an exciting come-from-behind 8-7 victory over Botetourt American in the elimination game of the Dixie Angels All-Stars Softball Tournament Tuesday night at Veterans Field in Radford.
Trailing 7-2 going into the bottom of the fifth, Blacksburg would use one-out walks by Emma Seylor, a fielder's choice by Emily Fugate, a walk by Kaitlyn Henze, a walk to Iris Flad, a walk to Adelyn Noble, a fielder's choice by Mara Isaacson, a walk by Meghan Perfaten and a two-out single by Bourne to score six times and claim the exciting 8-7 victory.
Blacksburg would take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Noble, Perfaten and Iren Tyler were all hit by a pitch and Issacson walked.![]()
Botetourt American would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the third on a double by Easton Cox, a single by MacKenzie Oestereich, a triple by Hannah Mundy and a single by Megan Victorine.
Botetourt American would increase its advantage to 6-2 in the top of the fourth on a single by Brooklyn Shelton, a fielder's choice by Kayla Hamlin, a double by Emma Layman, singles by Courtney Bucko and Jenna Alam and a fielder's choice by Cox.
In the top of the fifth, Oestereich would smack a home-run to give Botetourt American a 7-2 advantage heading into the bottom of the inning.
