Christiansburg Minors All-Stars Fall To North Carolina

Dunn, North Carolina scored 11 answered runs in handing Christiansburg (Team Virginia) an 11-2 loss in the opening game of the Dixie Minors Baseball Tournament in Bartow, Florida Saturday evening.

In the top of the first, Dakota Sisson beat out one-out infield single. MJ Hunter followed with a single and both moved up a base on a wild pitch. Zalen Akers then smacked a two-run single off the fence to plate Sisson and Hunter and give Christiansburg a 2-0 lead. Reagan Harris followed with a single and Akers was tagged out at second when he rounded the bag too far and couldn't scamper back to the bag in time to record the second out of the inning. Reagan Harris then singled and Brady Kirtner reached on an error. However, the threat ended, as the next batter struck out to end the inning and give Christiansburg a 2-0 lead.

Dunn, North Carolina tied the game in the bottom of the second at 2-all. They then scored four runs in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull away with the 11-2 victory.

Jason Duffie, Dakota Sisson, MJ Hunter, Zalen Akers and Regan Harris led Christiansburg with a hit apiece. Akers added two RBIs.

Three Dunn pitchers held Christiansburg to four hits.

Team Virginia (Christiansburg) plays Tennessee at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon in an elimination game.
