The Shawnee Swim Club opened up the 2012 Southwest Virginia Swim League season with a convincing 1668.5 to 790.5 win against the Hethwood Swim Club Thursday evening in Blacksburg.
Leading the Sharks of Shawnee were double-winners Patrick Reilly (boys 7-8, 25-yard free, 19.05 and 25-yard back, 21.58), Megan Anderson (girls 6-under, 25-yard free, 33.67 and 25-yard back, 27.94), Jack Nusabaum (boys 6-under, 25-yard free, 30.47 and 25-yard back, 30.86), Adelyn Noble (girls 11-12, 50-yard free, 33.89 and 50-yard back, 40:58), Erin Whitesell (girls 13-14, 50-yard free, 31.72 and 50-yard back, 37.73), Kathy Reilly (girls 40-49, 50-yard free, 32.46 and 50-yard back, 37.47), Taylor Newman (boys 15-19, 50-yard back), Shawn Hash (boys 40-49, 50-yard free, 29.42 and 50-yard back, 37.11) and Steve Skinner (boys 50-yard free, 36.35 and 50-yard back, 35.83).
Other top finishers for Shawnee included Norin Bortz (girls 7-8, 25-yard free, 19.75 seconds), Julia Lattimer (girls 9-10, 50-yard free, 36.59), Brenda Nguyen (girls 15-19, 50-yard free, 32.15), Audrey Link (girls 7-8, 25-yard back, 24.30), Abby Reilly (girls 9-10, 50-yard back, 43.03), Jeffrey Smith (boys 13-14, 50-yard back, 35.94) and Lilly Potts (girls 15-19, 50-yard back, 36.22) and the mixed 8-under 100-yard free relay team of Reilly, Noah Guillot, Bortz and Link with a time of 1:32.16.
Pacing Hethwood were Nathan Gilbarte (boys 9-10, 50-yard free, 44.80 and 50-yard back, 49.07), Ben Apisa (boys 11-12, 50-yard free, 31.88 and 50-yard back, 39.17), Ethan Apisa (boys 13-14, 50-yard free), Ethan Thompson (boys 15-19, 50-yard free, 28.12), Bill Osborne (boys 30-39, 50-yard back, 39.65) and the mixed 9-12 200-yard free relay team of Katie Kass, Ben Apisa, Seth Thompson and Emily Shelton with a time of 2:25.30.
