Michael McGuire, William Byrd High School freshman, continued his K&N Pro Series East education on Thursday April 26th, 2012 at the famed Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, VA.
Michael and the McGuire Racing Team were following up on a stellar outing at Bristol Motor Speedway, where the driver qualified fourth and finished eighth in his first ever series start.
The only laps Michael had turned at Richmond were on the iRacing simulator before walking through the gates on Thursday morning.
The team and driver fought a loose racecar during the practice session. Rain early on Thursday condensed the schedule for the teams and practice laps were at a premium.
Michael wheeled the Wood’s Towing and Transportaton, Black’s Tire Service Toyota Camry to an 18th starting position during qualifying for the 100-lap race. It was a pretty good effort for the 15-year-old at a track where the average qualifying lap was in the 120mph range.
The young driver raced hard during the feature race, which was carried live on Speed channel to viewers all over the United States and the world. He battled hard and at the end of the race, he had garnered his second top ten finish in as many outings in the top feeder series to the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide and Camping World Truck divisions.
Preliminary plans have Michael and the team looking to make their next start in the K&N Pro Series East division at Gresham Motorsports Park in Georgia on June 9th, 2012.
