The 23rd Anniversary of the Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia organized by Virginia Amateur Sports, will be holding its’ All Star Baseball Competition portion this weekend at Kiwanis Filed, in Salem, Virginia.
Beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, July 6, more than 75 college baseball coaches and professional Major League Baseball scouts will be evaluating and reviewing the skills and talents of Virginia’s upcoming high school juniors and seniors who made the four all-star regional baseball teams. These players will be displaying their talents over 3 days. More than 400 players tried out for the four teams representing the East, Central, West, and North regions of the state.
The first game will be Friday night at 6:00 pm with the North playing the West, followed by the East team playing the Central team. The four teams will play a round-robin tournament with the championship game being scheduled for Sunday, July 8 at approximately 12:30 pm. All games will be held at Kiwanis Baseball Field in Salem, Virginia.
The Subway Commonwealth Games of Virginia officially opens on Friday night, July 20 at 7:30 PM with the Opening Ceremonies being held at the Roanoke Civic Center. Join guest speaker, Gold Medalist, Joey Cheeks as he addresses the athletes and their families and guests. This colorful and festive ceremony will include the parade of athletes, indoor fireworks, the BMX Bicycle Team from Pennsylvania team and lighting of the cauldron. Our third annual Grand Home Furnishings Tail Gate Party, an event for everyone, will be held in the Special Events Center prior to Opening Ceremonies starting at 4:30 PM. Joining in the festivities will be the Washington Redskins Road Tour as they celebrate their 80th Anniversary. Entertainment, refreshments and a number of interactive games will be available for participants and their families.
