Erin Wheeler helped lead Northside to the girls title, while Wesley Gates led Staunton River to the boys crown of the Blue Ridge District outdoor track championships Saturday at Lord Botetourt High School in Daleville.

Girls Events

Wheeler finished first in events, as she led the Vikings to a 189-152 win over second-place finisher Lord Botetourt. Staunton River finished third with 52 points, followed by William Byrd (51) and Alleghany (39).

Wheeler won the 1600-meters, 800-meters and the 3,200 meters.

Lord Botetourt's Charquia Wright scored 50 of the Cavaliers' 152 points. Wright finished first in long jump, triple jump, 100-meters, 400-meters and the 200-meters.

Nialah Wilson of Lord Botetourt was first in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Other individual winners included Northside's Candice Smith in the high jump, Angelica Berger of Staunton River in the discus, Rebekah Miller of Staunton River in the shot put and Sarah Shrewsbury of Staunton River in the pole vault.

Lord Botetourt won the 4x800 relay, William Byrd claimed the 4x400 relay and Northside took the 4x100 relay.

Boys Events

Behind Gates, the Golden Eagles out-distanced second-place finisher William Byrd, 168-123. Alleghany was third with 79 points, followed by Northside (73) and Lord Botetourt (50).

Gates finished first in the long and triple jumps.

William Byrd's Kevin O'Conner crossed the line first in the 1,600-meters, 800-meters and thr 3,200-meters.

Eric Bartocci of Alleghany took the top spot in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Northside's Phillip Scott was first in the 100 and 200-meters.

Other individual winners included William Byrd's Justin Smith in the high jump, Andrew McLucas of Lord Botetourt in the discus, Tom Persinger of Alleghany inthe shot put, Justin Mihelich of Staunton River in the 400-meters, and Dillion Smith of Staunton River in the pole vault.

William Byrd won the 4x800 relay and the 4x400 relay, while Satunton River claimed the 4x100 relay.
