Northside Ousted By Brunswick

Northside-Vikings-LogoCasey Walker was a one-man show, as he scored a game-high 37 points, in helping lead Brunswick to a 67-58 win over Northside, in the Group AA, Division 3 boys state semifinals Tuesday evening at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond.

Brunswick (24-3) now faces Cave Spring for the Group AA, Division 3 state title at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Vikings (24-3) raced out to a 17-14 lead after the initial eight minutes and increased their advantage to 36-30 at the half. The Bulldogs started to make some noise in the third quarter, as they outscored Northside, 15-11, to pull to within two, 47-45, heading into the pivotal fourth quarter. with Northside leading 52-49, Walker would bury a three-pointer to tie the game at 52-52 with 4:43 showing. brunswick would then take the lead for good, 55-52, on a three-pointer by Javonte Green with 3:29 remaining. The Vikings would pull back to within one, 55-54, with 3:06 left on a basket by Stevan Richie. That would be as close as Northside would get, as the Bulldogs pulled away for the 67-58 victory.

For the game, Northside shot 33 percent (20-60), while Brunswick was 20-45 for 44 percent. The Bulldogs pulled down 45 rebounds, compared to 35 for the Vikings.

Walker also pulled down 10 rebounds for Brunswick.

Trey Smith led Northside with 22 points and Stevan Richie tossed in 13 points.
