Rockbridge County finally got the monkey off its back, as the Wildcats ended a five-game losing skid to R.E. Lee with a 24-7 non-district football win Friday night in Lexington.
The Wildcats (4-0), who led 10-7 at the half, pulled away with a pair of second-half touchdowns to claim the 24-7 win over the Leemen (2-1).
Porter Abell led Rockbridge with 118 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns.
Trey Merchant, Richie Tomlin and Chance Holland all recovered forced fumbles in the second half for the Wildcats.
"Defensively, we played great and came up with three huge fumbles," said Rockbridge County head coach Jason White. "Overall, we played very well."
