In a battle of the two top boys tennis teams in the Blue Ridge District, William Byrd remained unbeaten in league play, as they claimed a 7-2 victory over Alleghany Friday evening in Vinton.

Seniors Brennan Escobar and Joseph Davis continued to set the early pace with convincing wins at one and two singles.  Jim Fisher won a marathon three-set match at three singles, and Bryce Martin turned in another fine performance at five singles.  With Trevor Perdue and Blaine Mills falling to Alleghany in third-set tiebreakers, the Terriers closed out the singles portion of the match leading 4-2.  Brennan Escobar and Trevor Perdue  won 8-3 at one doubles to clinch the overall match.  Joseph Davis and Jim Fisher prevailed 8-5 at two doubles, and Bryce Martin and Will Trent dominated three doubles 8-0. 

"The reasons are many for the Terriers' first half success in the Blue Ridge District," said William Byrd head coach Jason Perdue. "Brennan Escobar, Joseph Davis, and Bryce Martin are unbeaten in singles play.  Jim Fisher and Trevor Perdue have provided solid point production form the middle of the lineup, and seniors Will Trent and Blaine Mills have performed quite well splitting time at six singles.  Escobar and Perdue at one doubles and Martin and Trent at three doubles are unbeaten in district play.  The Terriers present a versatile attack characterized by good serving and aggressive, all court play."

Four wins in a row put the Terriers atop the Blue Ridge District at 4-0 and pushed their overall record to 6-5.
