The Bears would hold the Maroon Tide to a mere three points in the second quarter, as Bland County turned a one point deficit into a 66-41 rout in the semifinals of the Region C, Division 1 girls basketball tournament Thursday night at George Wythe High School in Wytheville.
Bland County (21-2) will face rival Narrows (20-4) for the Region C, Division 1 girls title Saturday night at George Wythe. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. Both teams will also advance to the state quarterfinals.
Galax (11-13) would take a slim 11-10 lead after the first quarter. Bland County would open up the second quarter with an 18-0 run to take a 28-11 lead. By the time the half rolled around, the Bears were in command with a 34-14 advantage. Bland County would continue to dominate in the third quarter, as they outscored the Maroons, 22-14, including a 15-0 run to end the quarter, as they headed into the final eight minutes with a 56-28 advantage. The Bears would continue to pull away in the fourth quater, as they claimed the easy 66-41 win.
Allison White led Galax with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Samantha Magya led Bland County with a game-high 17 points. Erica Duncan and Laurel Hankins finished with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
