Unlike last year's 49-0 thumping of Floyd County, Christiansburg outlasted the visiting Buffaloes 35-21 in non-district football action Friday night.
The Blue Demons started things off with a 27-yard gallop by De'Quan Green-Gause to take a 7-0 led. The Buffaloes (0-1) answered with an 11-yard pass from Gus Underwood to Brandon Simpkins to make it 7-6. The Demons then scored again, this time a 7-yard run by Joey Augustin to give Christiansburg a 14-6 lead after the opening quarter.
In the second quarter, Mack Muldoon scored from 2-yards out to give Christiansburg a 21-6 lead. Floyd County added a 23-yard run by Dorian Harris to cut its deficit to seven, 21-14, at the break.
A 6-yard run by Augustin extended the Blue Demons lead to 28-14 after three quarters of action.
The Buffaloes pulled to within seven again, 28-21, on a 13-yard pass from Underwood to Vinny Kuchunbuch. A 50-yard by gallop by Augustin would make the final 35-21, Christiansburg.
Joey Augustine and De'Quan Green-Gause rushed for 145 and 134 yards, respectively.
