Learning the sport of wrestling at an early age was the goal of the 2010 Virginia Elite Youth Summer Wrestling Camp, which concludes today at Hawkeye Hall in Christiansburg.
More than 30 youngsters from around the region, in grades K through 6, attended the four-day camp, which was taught by the coaching staff and members of the nine-time state championship wrestling team at Christiansburg High School.
"We want to get the kids around the sport of wrestling, teach them some techniques, and have fun with it," said Daryl Weber, director of the camp and head wrestling coach at Christiansburg High School.
The young grapplers were shown the proper techniques of various holds from the high school wrestlers and instructors and then had a chance to practice against other campers to perfect what they were taught.
