Titans Fend Off Bruins

Hidden-Valley-LogoThe Titans needed a strong second half, to put away the pesky Bruins, 45-39, in the semifinals of the River Ridge District girls basketball tournament Tuesday night in Roanoke.

Blacksburg (12-10) will play Pulaski County, who lost to Salem, for a regional berth Thursday at a neutral site, which is yet to be determined.

The Bruins would jump out to a 13-7 lead after the initial quarter and would increase their advantage to 23-16 at the half. As the temperature started to drop outside, so did Blacksburg's shooting touch, as the Titans (17-6) outscored the Bruins 20-10, to take a slim 36-33 lead into the final quarter. Hidden Valley would use the foul line to their advantage in the fourth quarter, as they connected on 7-of-8 shots, in pulling away with the 45-39 victory.

Lacey McMahon and Katy Kipps both finished with 11 points to pace Blacksburg

Tyler Evans led Hidden Valley, who will play Salem for the tournament title Friday night, with a game-high 12 points.
