In order to beat one of the consistently strongest teams in the River Ridge District, all members of a baseball team need to playing at a high level and and feel confident that they can win on any given day. Those times are fast approaching, as the Pulaski County JV baseball team (11-7, 3-5 RRD) team added another district win this past Friday, shutting out the Hidden Valley Titans 5-0.
Daniel Shelley pitched six and a third innings, recording five strike outs, while giving up just one walk. Brayden Morris came out from behind the plate to close out the Titans, who managed to have bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh but did not score.
Hidden Valley did collect eight hits but the Cougar 's defense played it's finest game of the year and committed no errors while making the tough plays needed to shut down any Titan attack throughout the entire game.
The Cougar bats were consistent and put the ball in play while taking advantage of four hit batsmen, two walks, and their own six hits scoring two runs in the first, two runs in the third, and one for good measure in the sixth inning.
The win over Hidden Valley is the first in recent history, and with two district games remaining, the JV Cougars have a real chance at a positive district record.
JV Cougars next scheduled game is at home Tuesday against Blacksburg, and then away at Salem this Thursday.
