Kayla Goins nailed a pair of free throw with 1.8 seconds remaining, to propel the Lady Cavaliers to an exciting 58-56 win over the Titans in the semifianls of the Region IV, Division 4 girls basketball tournament Thursday night in Ridgeway.
Carroll County (19-3) now faces Bassett (16-6) in the championship game tonight at Magna Vista. Game time is 7 p.m. Both teams will also advance to next week's state quarterfinals.
Hidden Valley (18-8) would take a 13-7 lead after the opening eight minutes and would increase their lead to 24-22 at the half. The Lady Cavs would outscore the Titans 22-20 in the third quarter, to tie the game at 44-44 heading into the pivotal fourth quarter. It was back-and-forth throughout the final quarter. Trailing 56-54 with 11 seconds remaining, Hidden Valley's Kayla Osborne would hit a basket to tie the game at 56-56. Thus setting up the nail-biting ending.
Kayla Osborne led Hidden Valley with 24 points and Tyler Evans added 14 points.
Kayla Goins led Carroll County with a game-high 32 points.
