Eastern Montgomery Holds Off Late Bath County Charge

eastmont-mustangs-logoEastern Montgomery scored 21 points in the third quarter to turn a tie game into 27-20 non-district football win over Bath County Friday night in Hot Springs.

The Chargers (0-1), who knocked the Mustangs (1-0) out of the playoffs last year, took a 6-0 lead on a 3-yard run by Dereck Brinkley.

A 41-yard touchdown run by Mike Shelor would tie the game in the opening quarter.

After a scoreless second quarter, East Mont would break loose in the third quarter. A 21-yard pass from Shawn Christian to Julian Stewart, a 65 yard pass from Christian to Brad Wooten, along with a 38 yard run by Wooten would give the Mustangs a 27-6 lead after three quarters of action.

Bath County would make one final charge in the fourth quarter. A 5-yard scamper by Josh Robertson and a 33-yard pass from Robertson to Dillon Fry would make the final 27-20.

Josh Robertson led Bath County with 120 yards on a 12-for-20 passing night and one touchdown.
