It will be a rebuilding season in Floyd County, as the Buffaloes only return eight players of last year's team that went 2-3 in a tough Three Rivers District.
Returnees include Matt Hollandsworth (junior, QB/DB), Mark Harris (senior, TE/LB), Caz Cantrell (senior, SE/DB), Dorian Harris (soph., TB/LB), Tyler Carr (senior, FB/DB), Brandon Harris (senior, TB/LB), James Bohnke (senior, OL/LB) and Joe Link (senior, OL/DL).
Those players looking to make an impact for coach Winfred Beale, who is starting his 30th season at Floyd, are Zach Harrell (junior, SE/DB), Gus Underwood (soph., QB/LB), Daniel Memitt (junior, TB/DB), Cole Worrell (soph., FL/DB), Marious Midttun (senior, Kicker), Eli Overstreet (junior, FB/DL), Zach Sickey (junior, TE/LB), Jacob Newman (junior, OL/LB), Dustin McGuire (junior, OL/DL), Ricky Lawrence (soph., OL/DL), Peter Martin (junior, OL/DL) and Tyler Vaught (soph.,TE/LB).
"This will be one of the more inexperience teams we've had in a while," stated Beale. "A lot of new faces and a lot of old faces in new positions. However, it is a very united group with great team chemistry. They are great to work with and barring injuries, should get better as the season progresses."
As for the Buffaloes strengths, Beale said, "We have good size, good speed and great attitudes, while being young is our weakness."
The veteran coach added that the top game of the season will be the start of Three Rivers District play, "Every week is a dog fight in the district."
Floyd County opens its season this Friday night, as they travel to Christiansburg to take on the Blue Demons in a 7:30 p.m. encounter.
