Patrick Henry-Roanoke Loses Physical Battle With No. 1 Petersburg

Petersburg, the No. 1 ranked team in the state, jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, as they dominated Patrick Henry-Roanoke, 77-57, in the Group AAA boys state semifinals Wednesday night at the Siegel Center in Richmond.

The Wave (29-0) led 20-13 after the opening quarter and 36-30 at the half. Petersburg would continue to hold the upper-hand throughout the third quarter, as they took a  52-40 lead into the final quarter, Petersburg would continue to roll in the fourth quarter, as they pulled away for the 77-57 victory.

The game was a very physical one, as six technical fouls were called, including two double technicals. Petersburg was 33-for-44 from the foul line. Patrick Henry-Roanoke (21-5) went 3-for-8.

The Patriots were 12-of-34 from three-point land.

Frank Mason and Du’Vaughn Maxwell led Petersburg with 17 points apiece, while Quinton Spain and Desmore tossed in 16 points each.

Cam Jones led Patrick Henry-Roanoke with 16 points, including four 3-pointers and Tymon Smith finished with 15 points.
