William Fleming opened up its long awaited new football digs Friday night in front of a standing room only crowd. However, E.C. Glass spoiled the party, as the Hilltoppers claimed a tough 14-6 non-district decision over the Colonels.
After a scoreless first half, the Hilltoppers (1-1) raced out a 7-0 advantage with 6:16 left in the third quarter on a 4-yard run by Lamont Hamlette.
The Colonels (0-1) would use a 1-yard run by Trell Foster to score their first touchdown of the night late in the third quarter. The PAT was blocked, thus making it 7-6.
Following a missed 25-yard field goal by Shangler Joseph midway through the fourth quarter, that would have given William Fleming the lead. E.C. Glass would drive the final nail with just over two minutes left in the game, when Jordan Anderson connected with Daniel Bowling on a 34-yard touchdown pass to give the Hilltoppers the 14-6 victory.
William Fleming, who had a mere 93 yards on the ground, was led by Malcolm Hardy's 42 yards.
